Morning has arrived chez Slurps, and OMG is it ugly! However, it was, in the immortal words of Barry White, a stone-cold groove--a tiny hangover is a small price to pay.
Anita got us kicked out of a hotel bar in Dayton (that was full of hookers...) "May I see your ID?" "She's my daughter." "Is she over 21?" "Ah, no actually... she's 12."
You should have seen this poor guys face. It was HYSTERICAL. I thought he was gonna die. She would have been justified in telling them "I've been closing better hotel bars than this since I was in first grade!" And we've got the photo evidence to prove it...
Shadow, it was indeed an evening well worth the drive and the Tycho. One more though, and I might well still be sleeping on the couch! It was wonderful to hang out with you. I miss you and Shameless rather shamelessly.
Earl, that's Hi-larious! I'm actually kind of surprised she DIDN'T say that. Why didn't they kick the hookers out?! Geez.
Karan's show at the Vic was amazing. Her new band is fabulous. Of course, everyone (including Karan) has DEEP jazz talent so it was pretty funny to be sitting in this "lounge" listening to this trio that sounded like Bill Murray on SNL doing "If Only I Could Remember the Words to the Theme from MASH."
AS for the "professionals" I have NO DOUBT that the hotel benefits economically either directly or indirectly.
To see Karan and 'Nita together is such a stich-- except that nowadays 'Nita TOWERS over Karan. They were hugging and crying in the lobby after the show and people were looking at the two of them like "what the heck--are they related?" Since Niall and Karan had their new little girl Karan looks GREAT.
BTW first rule of the web: never EVER compose anything online. Write what you wanna say locally in a word processing program and THEN try to upload it to the 'net.
Apparently, MandoMama has more than one liver too. Certainly one more than me.
We are not worthy... We are not worthy!
Thanks for coming down for the visit. I sit and look at our kids in amazement. They are growing up so fast and so snarky. I love it!
Much love, Shameless Agitator, who is still holding down the sofa, as the tycho didn't kill the cold viruses that are growing in my sinuses and throat.
I'm going to MISS Karan when she's here, she'll be at Nightown soon. I'm glad she's got a nice groove going with the jazzier stuff.
You and Shameless both reminded me of Rule #1: Word First!
Shameless, I hope the couch has been a friend and that you are close to kicking what the tycho couldn't! It was an honor to join the Slurps. We shared the movie the kids made with some friends and it gets better everytime I see it. We all done good.
Yep, Karan's show at Nighttown is tonight (March 12, 2007)
Although her current lineup has major jazz chops, her current set is heavy on the old trad material. One great new addition is "Ae Fond Kiss" by Robbie Burns (pauses for moment of reverential silence..)
Ah, well, I don't know if Shameless wants me to give up the secret, but, Tycho is a beverage of her own invention, heavy laden with gin. Heavy. And it's to be taken at its coldest, right out of the freezer, hence the headline.
Enjoy the show tonight if I can't get out, which being a Monday and school night I highly doubt, although I contemplated bringing my wee ones. Another time!
I just love old-time traditional and bluegrass music. There are people so poor and so isolated they can't even read or write their own names, but they can sing, tell stories, and pass this music down generation after generation. This blog is dedicated to them, and to their champions.

Love,
A suddenly very tired MandoMama
I'm still feeling like hell, but then again, I only have the one liver.
We need to do lunch soon, MandoMama! It was so good to see you and catch up.
Much, much love.

OK, I'll bite:
what is "Tycho"?"
